PlayStation Vita

Sony's latest project, nicknamed Playstation Vita or PSV, is surely 1 cool piece of hardware! Capable of PS3 like game play, Sony looks like its ushering in the next generation of portable gaming.

The design returns to the original "brick" shape of the first PSPs. Probably a attempt by Sony to reverse the damage done by the dismal sliding design of the PSP Go. However, unlike the original PSP, the Vita is packed full of hardware to enhance gaming, including dual analog sticks, not the nub design but fully protruding sticks. This same design was considered earlier but was discarded due to heating issues.

A bit more on the technical side, the device will feature a quad core processor, a single core is rumoured to run anywhere from 500 MHz to 2000 MHz A 5 inch touch OLED screen will feature the front side, with a touchpad on the backside. The device will have Wi-Fi g/b/n, GPS, stereo bluetooth and a 6 axis motion system for motion games. A more expensive model will feature 3g connectivity.

The vita will have an amount of internal storage, unconfirmed by Sony as of now. The games will be distributed on 2 GB and 4 GB media cards. Nicknamed “Vitas” Seems like a bad idea to me! If hackers could rip games of UMDs just a few months after their release, then I wonder how long a media card would stand! The Vita will be backward compatible with all PSP games released on PSN. the games will be up converted using software that engages in real time. Other than that, the old XMB look is gone, to be replaced by LiveArena, a kind of forever logged on Facebook account! Linking all your friends, games etc.

Well, I for one can't wait until the release, to see if it really lives up to all its expectations.
That all from me at TechTalk, till next time.
